The Weems & Plath Porthole Weather Station, known to the maker as the Porthole Weather Center, sets three polished brass instruments side by side on a mahogany-finished hardwood plaque: a comfortmeter, a quartz clock and an aneroid barometer. Hang it horizontally on a wall or stand it on a desk or shelf.
Weather, time and comfort in one line
Each instrument has its own job. The barometer tracks air pressure, which normally signals a change in the weather 12 to 24 hours ahead. The clock keeps the time. The comfortmeter pairs a thermometer with a hygrometer, and its two needles are set so that they cross inside the marked COMFORT zone when temperature and humidity are at their most pleasant.
Unlike pressure, relative humidity indoors differs from outdoors, so the hygrometer reports on the room itself rather than echoing the forecast. That makes it genuinely useful in a centrally heated study, a library or a snug where books and papers are kept.
Polished brass, crafted to last
The brass cases are highly polished and finished so that they will not tarnish or discolour, and for the Porthole Collection that finish is covered by the Weems & Plath warranty. Every porthole has its hinge and dogs, just like the real thing. The clock's N battery and mounting hardware are included, and a video in which a Weems & Plath weather station is unboxed can be opened with the video button below the photos.
As a gift for a retirement, a milestone birthday or anyone who checks the sky before anything else each morning, it combines heritage styling with genuine everyday use.

Frequently asked questions
What does the comfortmeter show?
Temperature and relative humidity on one dial. The needles are factory calibrated and normally need no adjustment; when they cross within the COMFORT zone, conditions are ideal.
How should the hygrometer be looked after?
In a room that is permanently dry, for example with central heating or air conditioning, give the hygrometer 24 hours wrapped in a damp cloth twice a year. This revives coils that have become sluggish.
How do I adjust the barometer?
Obtain the current pressure from your local weather service, open the barometer's hinged bezel and turn the small screw behind the movement until the needle agrees. Above sea level, correct by roughly 3.7 hPa for each 30 metres of height.
