The Weems & Plath Porthole Desk Set brings a brass quartz clock and an aneroid barometer together on a stand of solid hardwood with a mahogany finish. Each instrument is framed as a polished porthole, complete with hinge and dogs, and a groove along the front makes a place to rest a pen. It is the kind of object that makes a desk feel considered.
Time and weather at a glance
Placed beside a keyboard or a leather blotter, the set answers two everyday questions in a single look: what time it is and which way the weather is heading. The barometer works mechanically, with an aneroid capsule moving the needle across millibar and inch scales, and the traditional Rain, Change and Fair lettering is there for character. The clock has black Arabic numerals, a 24-hour inner ring and a red seconds hand.
Brass that stays bright
The brass cases carry a tarnish-resistant finish, and in the Porthole Collection that finish is expressly covered by the Weems & Plath warranty, which is far from standard for brass instruments. Rubber feet protect polished wood or leather desk tops, and at 260 by 133 mm the stand leaves plenty of room to work.
A distinguished gift
For a colleague's promotion, a retirement, a yacht club officer or a client with a love of the sea, it is a present with presence. It suits a panelled study as easily as a bright modern office, and it arrives with the N battery for the clock.

Frequently asked questions
How do I correct the barometer reading?
Compare it with the current pressure from a local weather service, then turn the slotted screw on the back of the movement left or right until the needle shows the correct value.
How can I tell whether the barometer is working?
Give it a few days first, as steady pressure keeps the needle still. Then place the set in a clear plastic bag with a little air trapped inside, hold the bag closed and press on it; the needle should move. If it does not, please contact us.
What battery does the clock need?
An N-size 1.5 V battery, which comes with the set. Never leave a flat battery in place, as leaking acid damages the movement and such damage falls outside the warranty. In shops this size is also sold as LR1, E90, MN9100, 910A or AM5.
